How to change default Icons in Mac OS

Bored with the old default icons on your mac? Don’t worry this tutorial will teach how you can change them anyway you want.

Make .icns file

We need to .icns files to change your mac icons, to create these .icns files we’re going to use a small app called img2icns. First select the new png or new jpg you want as your new icon and drag it on to img2icns windows to get the .icns file.

Get Info

Now right click on the folder or app you want to change the icon for and select ‘get info’. Now drag your new .icns file to the icon box at the top left corner in get info window like in the screenshot below.

There you go, you’ve changed your icon. Just google for any icon you want, there are loads of them available for free. Alternatively you could use a simple app called candybar, to change your icons for you.
