Remember the cool Autopilot feature of will smith’s car in Bad Boys 2? Well VW made it real. Now you can eat ur favorite burger or read ur favorite magazine while your car takes you safely to your destination.

Volkswagen’s call this new feature as Temporary Auto Pilot (TAP) and uses a series of cameras and sensors to control the vehicle at speeds upwards of 80 mph. The system combines and refines existing semi-autonomous features such as lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control into a single program that accelerates, brakes and steers. It maneuvers the highways like a champ and even handles the stop and go of traffic jams.

Volkswagen has clearly mentioned that the driver always retains driving responsibility and is always in control. Obviously it doesn’t wasn’t to fall into any liability issues yet.
Volkswagen’s latest Temporary Auto Pilot is based on a production ready components like sensor platform, consisting of production-level radar-, camera- and ultrasonic-based sensors supplemented by a laser scanner and an electronic horizon. This means that we could see a production version in a year or two.
